Warranty/Registration
From PERPWiki
If product warranties are to be registered, it will be done in this section.
New Registration
Click the New Registration button. Complete the form.
As a "cheat block", the firs three items of information must be known to the warranty rep who is registering the warranty.
- Client - For a manufacturer or wholesaler, this will be the name of the retailer. It is a select box.
- Stock Item - This select box should be restricted to items that are actually sold. Choose the appropriate product.
- Serial Number - The serial number must match both the client and the product. There is no lookup.
If these three match, registration will proceed. If not, an error will be generated.
- Warranty Starts On - Enter or select the date on which the warranty commences (usually date of sale, deliver, or registration).
- Warranty Ends On - There is no default, and the warranty rep must know the terms of warranty for this particular item.
- Next - When the product record is complete, click here.
The Next button will open a customer record in Address Book. This is a generic address card, so ignore any fields that do not apply and use those that your business needs to track customer information. Remember that Address Book is part of the eGroupWare customer management system, so the information you enter here can be used for much more than the warranty record.
Complete the address record and click Save. You will be returned to the Registration page and the customer information will now show on the page. Add any notes to the record and click Save.
Edit a Registration
A specific registration record can be examined by clicking on the magnifier icon to the right of the record in the Warranty Registrations list.
Once a warranty has been registered, there is little that can be edited. The retail client, product, and serial number are fixed and cannot be changed. Any errors in this information should have been discovered and corrected before the warranty was registered.
As part of the verification process, DO NOT register a product if there is any doubt as to the accuracy of the information.
The Start and End dates of the warranty term can be edited, and a reason put in the notes field. For example, abuse or misuse of the product may void the warranty, and it would be a good idea to check that the end date is reset to the date of the abuse.
EDIT CUSTOMER
Customer information can be edited either by
- Using the magnifier icon from the registration page
- Editing the address record directly in the address book.
This would include change of address, updating private information, etc.
After editing a client record, there is at the time of this document no quick way to get back to the registration for that customer.
Note that it is not possible to swap client records. That is, if an error has been made and a product registered to another person who has a record in the system, both records must be manually edited.
Working with the Registration List
The registered products are stored in the Registration List. Claims can be searched and sorted and filtered in various ways. There is nothing unique about the search/sort/filter functions in this section.
